The first NFT game Champions: Ascension is unveiled by Jam City’s blockchain subsidiary.

Jam City is expanding into nonfungible token (NFT) games with the creation of a new blockchain division and its first NFT game, Champions: Ascension, a fantasy adventure game.
The move is significant, as it follows in the footsteps of other companies such as Ubisoft, Com2Us, and Zynga in embracing Web 3 — the future of decentralised computing — and blockchain in recent days. As entrepreneurs pioneered a multibillion-dollar sector this year, well-known game developers such as Will Wright, Peter Molyneux, Graeme Devine, Austin Grossman, and others have started plunging into NFT games.
However, other projects, such as GSC Game World’s Stalker 2, have garnered criticism from gamers who are concerned about environmental damage, frauds, money laundering, and a concentration on gaining money over gaming. In that sense, this is the birth of free-to-play games, as well as the beginning of social and mobile games.
By harnessing the security and openness of blockchain’s digital ledger to authenticate unique digital assets, NFTs promise a new business model for things like digital collectibles. In games, NFTs allow players to possess their own stuff.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Jam City CEO Chris DeWolfe remarked, “We’ve been studying this sector and believe we have a significant chance to empower gamers with direct ownership of their characters and other advantages.”
“We believe NFTs have been intriguing and, to some extent, overhyped,” he added, “but where they’ll really shine is where they can be put into an environment where the NFTs have use.” “And so, basically, we believe there will be a shift in user behaviour.” It’s currently happening, where people demand more control over their web and computer experiences.”
You’re acquiring an asset by spending money in the game, and DeWolfe says you might be able to use that asset in future entertainment experiences. You can also sell it.
“And in terms of the game’s direction, there will be a more collaborative experience between the game producers and the gamers,” DeWolfe said. “It’ll be much more of a community with direct input from that perspective.” It’ll be much more socially oriented. We’ll be using Discord a lot more in the future.”
The first title is Champions: Ascension, a “play-to-earn” adventure game set in a high fantasy realm built for Web 3, according to Johnny Casamassina, Jam City’s head of design, in an interview with GamesBeat. He’s been producing games for 20 years, most of them for PC and consoles. He moved into mobile games a decade ago and now works as the design director at Jam City, and he claimed he’s always wanted to build this game.
“We’re really committed in Web 3 computing,” he continued, “and games will be one of the first large applications there.” “Over the last nine months, we’ve been investing in creating blockchain experiences for people.” We’ve been working on one of the projects for quite some time.”
NFTs with a limited production run
Jam City will release a limited run of 10,000 NFTs called Prime Eternals — the ultimate ascension tier in the Champions universe — ahead of the game’s launch, beginning with a whitelist-only private sale.
In the planet of Massina, which has been at peace for 1,000 years, the team has created characters called Champions that players can own. People are unified and amused by gladiatorial games in a great arena contested by bizarre monsters known as Eternals, which have been ruled by Emperors for generations.
These alchemical products have specific qualities and are imbued with a primal essence such as life, death, or arcane. People revere these essences as deities because the balance between the Houses has an impact on their daily lives. With the use of blockchain technology, players will be able to make modifications to the world of Massina.
The 10,000 one-of-a-kind Prime Eternals NFTs will only be minted once, and Prime Eternals holders will have the maximum in-game earning potential as well as access to exclusive advantages not available to other players. Special gear, the ability to play an early version of the game, and direct access to the game’s developers via Discord, where they will have direct input on Champions’ direction and evolution via feedback and regular votes on new products and characters being introduced in Massina, are just a few of the benefits.
The focus of the game
Players will engage in high-stakes strategic decision making to outsmart, outmanoeuvre, and overcome opponents in gladiatorial battle. Players will be able to train, equip, and prepare Champions for deadly battles; forge weapons, armour, and gear from the bones of fallen opponents; battle for land ownership to build forges that will allow you to craft imbued gear; splice a Champion’s essence with that of others to create more powerful Champions; form alliances, and rise through the ranks of leadership.
Jam City will later include more Champions tiers, each with various amounts of in-game earning potential and access to gear. In the game, Champion NFTs can be used to locate, socialise with, and battle other players. But it won’t simply be for crypto enthusiasts and serious gamers.
“We’re aiming for all of our games to be really approachable,” DeWolfe said. “You don’t have to download all of these complicated wallets when you’re actually playing the game.” “There’s a lot of friction when you’re playing a game.” However, starting a game will be as simple as starting any other free-to-play game.”
The rarity of each character will be varied.
“These are assets that effectively exist in perpetuity,” Casamassina added. The Champions will be pitted against one another. And one winner and one loser will emerge from those conflicts. The Champions who rise will be able to absorb the essence of the fallen champions, therefore strengthening themselves.
The champions advance to the next round of competition. Films like 300 and Thor Ragnarok had a big influence on the game.
Players will be able to build structures and fabricate fight gear for their characters in later versions of Jam City, which they can use or sell on the player-to-player marketplace. All of these activities will allow players to develop their collections and presences in the Champions Universe, boosting community involvement and allowing users to use gameplay, peer-to-peer sales, and staking to boost the value of their Eternals and digital goods in their wallets over time.
DeWolfe stated that the company will first focus on web games before moving into mobile. Jam City will use emerging technologies like NFTs, minting, staking, and trading to help develop a metaverse to support the game.
There are numerous materials available.
Jam City just obtained $350 million in venture capital and paid $165 million for Ludia. Cookie Jam in Jam City has racked up almost $800 million in lifetime bookings, while Panda Pop has racked over $400 million in lifetime bookings. It also created Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, a role-playing game.
DeWolfe founded MySpace in 2003, which ushered in Web 2.0 and grew to become one of the world’s largest social networks until Facebook surpassed it.
“We were at the forefront of mobile,” DeWolfe added, “which we regarded as the next big transformation in computing.” “We believe blockchain is far larger than that.”
DeWolfe isn’t certain that it’s all vaporware. He cited Colombia and El Salvador as examples of countries that have embraced blockchain. Jam City now has 1,300 employees and plans to invest heavily in its blockchain sector.
“To be successful, you must possess all of the attributes that a great free-to-play game developer has cultivated over time,” DeWolfe added. “It’s still about producing extremely deep, rich entertainment experiences,” says the executive. This isn’t going to change.”

I do love the way you have framed this specific matter and it does supply me personally some fodder for thought. Nevertheless, coming from what precisely I have observed, I just trust when the commentary stack on that people today continue to be on point and not get started upon a tirade of some other news du jour. Anyway, thank you for this fantastic piece and whilst I do not necessarily go along with the idea in totality, I regard your point of view.
But wanna comment on few general things, The website style is perfect, the subject material is rattling wonderful. “The reason there are two senators for each state is so that one can be the designated driver.” by Jay Leno.
