McDonald’s Makes Metaverse Moves: 11 Trademark Applications for a “Virtual Restaurant” and “Virtual Goods”

McDonald’s, the world’s largest fast-food corporation, has filed a total of twelve trademark applications in the metaverse, eleven of which make direct allusions to virtual restaurants, cafes, concerts, and other virtual services, goods, and events.
Gerben Intellectual Property is a trademark attorney and the creator of Gerben Intellectual Property. The applications were first brought up on Twitter by Josh Gerben, who pointed out ten applications made by the fast-food company.
According to the documents, the company may offer “a virtual restaurant combining actual and virtual goods” as well as “running a virtual restaurant with home delivery.”
“Virtual food and beverage goods” and “Downloadable multimedia files incorporating artwork, text, audio and video files, and non-fungible tokens” are among the trademark applications filed (NFTs).
McDonald’s also submitted a trademark registration for its McCafe brand. “Virtual food and beverage goods” and “Downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio and video files, and non-fungible tokens” are also trademarked by the company.
The move is part of a bigger trend in the sector, in which huge tech and luxury brands compete for a piece of the future digital world.
Walmart and Crocs both filed trademark applications early this year, indicating that they intend to sell virtual items, digital assets, and NFTs.
